  • A Style Sheet is a detailed document that is provided at the conclusion of the line and copy editing phases. It’s purpose is to make note of author style preferences to be used throughout each editing stage to ensure consistency. Especially when working with multiple editors.

    Line editing details include:
    -Grammar and punctuation preferences
-Notes about author voice and style
    -Word spelling preferences

    Copy editing details include:
*in addition to what’s included with line editing
    -A character bible
    -Location list
-Short chapter summary chart noting any detail inconsistencies, timeline errors, or areas that need attention for clarity.

*This is an added bonus I offer all clients and is not a standard requirement for a style sheet. I provide this for clarity and for authors to use during revisions and for self-editing future projects.

Dot The i Edit is books approximately 6 months out or more. Last minute openings do occasionally pop up and are shared via Newsletter first as they become available. However, it’s best to plan ahead and reach out well in advance to when you’ll be ready to start the editing process!

DTiE genre preferences include: contemporary, rom-com, reverse harems, LGBQT+, erotica, dark, and taboo romance.
Now also open to low fantasy, paranormal, and omegaverse.

I have no triggers, however, all content/trigger warnings must
still be provided prior to any project being accepted.
For taboo romance, explicit details must be provided about the
nature of the taboo content before being accepted for editing.

*Genres I do not work with: High fantasy, YA, christian, or historical romance.

What to consider when booking:

The Different Types
of Editing

Developmental Editing

Dev. editing is a detailed assessment of the story as a whole. This will include feedback about structure and pacing, narrative, character development, tone, writing quality in reference to show vs. tell, etc. Because of the detailed nature of developmental editing, this should be the first phase of editing to help build and refine your story before the more technical stages of line and copy editing.
Be prepared to make changes at this stage.

Line Editing

Readability. This is what line editing focuses on. Do your sentences flow smoothly? Does the tone match the setting/scene, feelings of characters, the overall theme of the book? Line editing is a line by line assessment of your writing structure at the sentence and paragraph level. The purpose is to ensure clear readability and clarity by eliminating any extra fluff (word dumping), repetition or redundancy of words/phrases/events (crutch words), and making sure verbiage is consistent and aligns with themes and characters.

Copy Editing

Copyediting is for consistency. Copy editing moves away from the story and focuses on the technical content including spelling preferences, grammar, punctuation preferences, and overall consistency of style, format and information.
For example:
-Is Georgie born and raised in LA but often saying “y’all”? (She shouldn’t be…)
-Are you writing time as 8:04 am in some chapters but as 8:04 A.M. in the next? (Not with a copy edit!)

Additional Feedback Services

Proofreading

Congratulations, you've made it to the final round! The clean up stage. This last level of review once all editing is complete! Proofreading focuses on the small details that may have been missed in all the previous stages of editing because lets face it, we're all human and errors happen. The final proofread is intended to catch any remaining spelling errors, any missing or incorrect punctuation, and confirming that formatting is consistent from start to finish.

Alpha/Beta Reading

Before you begin the deep dive into full blown editing, you want to make sure that your story works for readers. Beta readers are a great tool to gain feedback about plot inconsistencies, the likability of characters, settings etc.

**This is also an extra important step if you're writing anything that may include triggering content. Beta readers will give insight to how the triggering material can enhance or hinder your manuscript, and if it's realistic or relatable.

Sensitivity Reading

Sensitivity readers are readers who read an early draft of your book to review specific themes and topics for accuracy and realism.
